“In the Upper Garden”, traditional tune, arranged by Sarah Houle, 2021, for NOLA Trio (Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba).
This short little NOLA Brass Trio features an arrangement of a traditional jazz tune. It is arranged for the trio with respect to what each instrument might traditionally play in a live setting. The trumpet naturally takes the lead on the melodic line, tuba holds down the bass and trombone fills in-between, providing harmonies and aiding in the sound of the chord progression. To add some interest, the trombone does take over the lead line briefly at the beginning of the second statement of the melody.
Chord changes are included in each part to allow players to ad lib as they see fit.
